Gaby Martínez, la primera oficial en estar en un juego de playoffs de la NAIA

La mexicana Gabriela Martínez se convirtió en la primera mujer en la historia de la National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) que participa como oficial o árbitro en un partido de playoffs.

Se trató del duelo de cuartos de final entre Keiser University y Reinhardt University celebrado el pasado sábado 24 de abril

Cabe señalar que fue apenas la segunda vez en la historia de la NAIA en la Mid-South Conference que se deja a una planilla de arbitraje intacta, ya que la costumbre es hacer una selección de diversos integrantes de otras planillas ya en playoffs.

UN POCO DE HISTORIA

La regiomontana Gabriela Martínez García es egresada de la UANL y fundadora de la Women´s Football Nuevo León (WFNL), debutó como árbitro de la Mid-South Conference de la NAIA (liga alterna de la NCAA) en septiembre del 2019.

Gaby, quien practicó a un alto nivel colegial handball, voleibol, futbol rápido, lacrosse y futbol americano en el equipo de Dallas Diamons en el 2009, es una de las 3 mujeres entre un grupo de 100 oficiales que asistieron en marzo pasado a la clínica de arbitraje GACFOC en Lakeland, Florida, evento que le dio la oportunidad de ser observada por los supervisores que finalmente le han dado la gran oportunidad de ser parte de la Mid-Souths Conference.

The mexican Gabriela Martínez became the first woman in the history of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to participate as an official or referee in a playoff game.

It was the quarterfinal duel between Keizer University and Reinhardt University held last Saturday, April 24.

It was only the second time in the history of the NAIA in the Mid-South Conference that an official roster was left intact, since the custom is to make a selection of various members of other rosters already in the playoffs.

A LITTLE HISTORY

Gabriela Martínez García, from Monterrey, is a graduate of the UANL and founder of the Women’s Football Nuevo León (WFNL), she debuted as a referee for the Mid-South Conference of the NAIA (NCAA alternate league) in September 2019.

Gaby, who practiced at a high level collegiate handball, volleyball, fast soccer, lacrosse and football for the Dallas Diamons team in 2009, is one of 3 women among a group of 100 officials who attended the clinic last March. GACFOC arbitration in Lakeland, Florida, an event that gave her the opportunity to be observed by the supervisors who have finally given her the great opportunity to be part of the Mid-Souths Conference.
